Aura CuriAtlas Physical Theatre

Dan is a Co-Founder of Aura CuriAtlas Physical Theatre, and was Co-Artistic Director from 2013-2022

Dan founded Aura CuriAtlas (AC) in 2013 with choreographer Joan Gavaler. Their goal was to find magic in ordinary situations presented in unusual ways. Blending dance, theatre, and acrobatics to tell stories, the company keeps the qualities of lightness (Aura), strength (Atlas), and play (Curiosity) at the center.  They value a relationship with each audience that is based on community and an easy exchange of ideas. Their lightheartedness,  athleticism, and reliance on physical storytelling make every story accessible to audiences of many different ages and backgrounds.

In 2014, AC premiered their first show, Dream Logic, in Chicago and have continued creating and touring since then. As of 2022, the core company has created three shows (listed below), performed in 20 cities, and been joined by over 20 guest and recurring performers.
Tour highlights include performing at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, at Steppenwolf Theatre, and for the U.S Embassy in Cyrprus.

Dream Logic

A curious collection of magical short stories told through dance, theatre, and acrobatics that invite the audience to accompany each character on a journey.

A Life With No Limits

Inspired by the life and work of astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, this work is created in the company’s signature style blending dance, theatre, and acrobatics with original music composed by Sophia Serghi. This story reflects on the determination, passion, and sense of humor of someone who has severe physical limitations, yet has an imagination that is able to roam free.

The Fool and The World

AC’s newest show is inspired by the 22 Major Arcana cards of a Tarot deck and is performed to music by Sophia Serghi. The trio of performers takes on the characters and situations depicted in the cards, bringing them to life through acrobatics and dance.
